Birthplace: Page County, Iowa Resided In: Red Oak, Iowa Marvis G. Johnson, age 84 of Red Oak, Iowa passed away Thursday, October 30, 2008 at the Clarkson Hospital in Omaha after a sudden illness. Marvis Geraldine Johnson was born September 2, 1924 in Page County, Iowa the daughter of Ray and Ruth (Peterson) Sederburg. She was raised in Page and Montgomery Counties. Marvis was united in marriage to Bert Johnson on May 4, 1941 in Yuma, Arizona. They lived in the Stanton and Red Oak area all of their lives. Marvis worked for Hunts Grocery Store and Hy Klas Grocery before starting to work at the Union Carbide in 1956 where she worked for 31 years retiring in 1987. She was a member of the Bethlehem Lutheran Church, WELCA, the Classic Cats Club of Union Carbide, and the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital Auxiliary. Marvis loved cooking, having family gatherings, playing games including cards, and watching all of her kids and grandkids in whatever activity they were involved. She also was an avid collector of a variety of things including dolls. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband: Bert Johnson on October 21, 1992. Survivors include her children: Karen Pratt and husband Doug of Red Oak, Iowa; Kathleen Thompson and husband Jerry of Ankeny, Iowa; Steve Johnson and wife Connie of Overland Park, Kansas; and Becky Vannausdle and husband Chris of Red Oak, Iowa; 13 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; 5 great great grandchildren; brothers-in-law: Lambert Johnson and wife Ivorine of Medford, Oregon; Jack Johnson of Medford, Oregon; and Fred Johnson of Medford, Oregon; aunts: Nadine Johnson of Stanton, Iowa and Lorene Swanson of Stanton, Iowa; many nieces and nephews including Bud Halvin and wife Joyce of Red Oak, Iowa; and many other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held 10 AM, Monday, November 3, 2008 at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church with Pastor George Hooper officiating. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be held from 6-8 PM, Sunday, November 2, 2008 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel. Memorials are suggested to the Bethlehem Lutheran Church or the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital Auxiliary. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
