Birthplace: Page County, Iowa Resided In: Red Oak, Iowa Marvis Harms, age 83, of Red Oak, Iowa passed away Saturday, November 4, 2006 at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital. Marvis Elaine Harms was born July 31, 1923 in Page County, Iowa, the daughter of Reuben and Mae (Royer) Johnson. She was raised in Essex graduating from Essex High School in 1940. Marvis was united in marriage to Walter Harms on October 19, 1942 in Tarkio, Missouri. They lived in Page County before moving to Red Oak in 1952. Walt and Marvis owned and operated Harms Implement Company, with Walt's brother Dale Harms, for many years, and Marvis worked for Union Carbide and later the Montgomery County Courthouse. After retirement, Walt and Marvis enjoyed spending many winters in Arizona. Walter preceded Marvis in death on December 3, 1994. Marvis was a member of the Our Savior's Lutheran Church, enjoyed reading and cooking, and spending time with her family and friends. Marvis was also preceded in death by her parents; brothers: Dencil, Harold, and Wally Johnson; and a sister: Maxine Glassinger. Survivors include her son: Randy Harms of Red Oak, Iowa; daughters: Sharon Chrostowski and husband Adam of Trinity, Florida; and Connie Johnson and husband Steve of Overland Park, Kansas; grandchildren: Chad Johnson and partner Christopher Heaps of Washington, D.C.; Meghann Johnson and partner D.J. Box of Overland Park, Kansas; Justin Chrostowski and wife Beverly of Lake Orion, Michigan; and Amanda Bice and husband Shawn of Sammamish, Washington; 2 great grandchildren: Brendan and Collin Bice of Sammamish, Washington; brother: Ray Johnson and wife Marianna of Red Oak, Iowa; sisters-in-law: Leona Johnson of Red Oak, Iowa; Elaine Johnson of Sunrise Beach, Missouri; Lois Otte and husband Wayne of Spirit Lake, Iowa; and Wilma Falk of Clarinda, Iowa; brother-in-law: Dale Harms and wife JoAnn of Red Oak, Iowa; many nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held 10 AM Wednesday, November 8, 2006 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be held from 7-8 PM Tuesday, November 7, 2006 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel. Memorials are suggested to the Red Oak Public Library. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
