Birthplace: Rural Villisca, IA Resided In: Hepburn, IA Thomas "Marvin" Raines, age 86, of Hepburn, Iowa, passed away Wednesday, July 5, 2017 at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital in Red Oak. Marvin was born May 7, 1931 on a farm near Villisca, Iowa the son of Thomas and Edna (Mattly) Raines. He grew up around the Villisca community and surrounding counties in Southwest Iowa. He attended country school through the eighth grade, then left home to begin work as a hired hand for area farmers. He was united in marriage to Arlene McCuen on February 5, 1958 in Villisca, Iowa. Marvin began farming for several area farmers before settling down on his own farmstead near New Market, Iowa in 1972. He also worked for Rhamy Trucking. Marvin and Arlene moved to Hepburn in 1984 where he worked for Bill Smith for several years before retiring. Marvin was a simple man with simple pleasures of rodeo riding in his younger years, deer hunting, trapping, and fishing. Hunting, trapping, and fishing are pleasures that he instilled in his son and several grandchildren as well. He absolutely loved the outdoors. In retirement, Marvin enjoyed helping out with canning of goods, gardening, and planting flowers. He especially enjoyed and looked forward to his yearly trips to the Lake of the Ozarks at his daughter's lake home and time spent with his family in Tucson, Arizona.
