Martha Elaine Walter, age 82, of Stanton, Iowa, passed away Tuesday, January 6, 2026, at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital. Martha was born June 12, 1943, in Villisca, Iowa, the daughter of Albert and Olive (Hill) Lee. She graduated from New Market High School. She lived in Glenwood for a short time and then started working at Eveready Battery in Red Oak where she met Val Gene Walter. They were married on September 30, 1967, in Omaha, Nebraska, and Martha was a stay-at-home mom raising her children for 12 years. She started working at Nachurs Plant Food Company and later took training to become a CNA and a Med Aide. Martha worked at Stanton Care Center and retired after many years of service. She was a member of Evangelical Covenant Church in Stanton and was a devoted grandmother to many grandchildren. Her hobbies included reading, crossword puzzles, baking cookies, and taking care of Val Gene.

Preceding her in death were her parents; husband: Val Gene Walter; siblings: Robert Lee, Betty Lindberg, Sara Delaney, and Mary Robinson. Survivors include her children: Douglas Val Gene Walter and wife Tracy of Humble, TX; Denise Larson and husband David of Clinton, IA; Derrick Walter and partner Tiffany Swartz of Villisca, IA; and Darrell Walter of Red Oak, IA; 6 grandchildren: Palmer Morales of Humble, TX; Tyler Walter of Red Oak, IA, Cameron Walter (Madison) of Tabor, IA; Kelsey Walter of Villisca, IA; Caleb Walter and wife Jody of Red Oak, IA; and Rylee Walter of Stanton, IA; Kaitlyn Swartz and Hunter Swartz; 6 great grandchildren: Nolan, Shay, Elizabeth, Leroy, Adaline, and Jaxson; brothers: Everett Lee and wife Betty of Bedford, IA and Carl Lee and wife Sandy of Clarinda, IA; sisters-in-law: Shirley Freeman of Clarinda, IA and Marlys Gilson of Clarinda, IA; many nieces, nephews, and other relatives and many friends.

A celebration of life service will be held at 11 AM Saturday, January 10, 2026, at the LeRette Funeral Chapel in Red Oak. Visitation with the family will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
