Martha F. Dahlstrom, age 89, of Clive, Iowa formerly of Red Oak, Iowa, passed away Sunday, February 19, 2023, at Arbor Springs Nursing Home. Martha was born March 17, 1933, in Griswold, Iowa, the daughter of Roy and Sadie (Leonard) McGrew. She graduated from high school in Elliott, Iowa, and Commercial Extension Business School in Omaha, Nebraska. Martha was united in marriage to Lavon Dahlstrom on December 28, 1952, in Elliott, Iowa. Martha and Lavon lived many different places throughout Iowa and Illinois during their 70 year-marriage. Martha worked many years as a legal secretary and paralegal, serving two years for the Attorney General of Iowa and later for the US Attorney for the Northern District of Iowa. She worked for the IRS in Waterloo and Des Moines before moving to Red Oak, Iowa in 1991. In her retirement, she still worked for many years at Loomis Abstract in Red Oak. Martha and Lavon moved to Clive, Iowa, to be near their family in recent years. Martha was a longtime member of the Lutheran Church and served in many capacities including being a member of WELCA, singing in the church choir, and quilting with the church ladies. She also enjoyed gardening and knitting. Martha was very charitable and used many of her talents to help those in need.
Preceding her in death were her parents. Survivors include her husband Lavon Dahlstrom of Clive, IA; children: David Dahlstrom of Ames, IA; Don Dahlstrom and wife Suzanne of Clive, IA; Sara Dahlstrom of W. Des Moines, IA; and Daniel Dahlstrom of Arvada, CO; 10 grandchildren: Cory Dahlstrom and wife Kayla of Waukee, IA; Amanda Dahlstrom of Corning, IA; Ryan Dahlstrom of Lehigh, IA; Taylor Dahlstrom of Atlanta, GA; Nathan Dahlstrom of Clive, IA; Serik Baldwin of W. Des Moines, IA; Matthew Baldwin of Tacoma, WA; Gavin Dahlstrom of Ft. Collins, CO; Ian Dahlstrom of Arvada, CO; and Anna Dahlstrom of Littleton, CO; 2 great grandchildren: Zoey Dahlstrom and Payton Dahlstrom of Waukee; and many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 AM Saturday, February 25, 2023, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Red Oak, Iowa. A luncheon and visitation with the family will follow the ceremony at the church. Burial will be in the Mamre Cemetery at Stanton, Iowa.
