Obituary

Marilyn Sue Westover, age 92, of Red Oak, Iowa, passed away Tuesday, November 4, 2025, at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital. Marilyn was born September 11, 1933, in Prescott, Iowa, the daughter of George and Bernice (Gourley) Hayes. She graduated from the Stewartsville High School in 1950 and was united in marriage to Charles Gilbert "Gib" Westover on May 5, 1951, in Villisca, Iowa. Marilyn made her home in Grant, Iowa, for many years before moving to Denver for five years. She then moved to Red Oak, Iowa, and Acorn Acres has been her home for the past 16 years. Over the years, Marilyn worked at Eveready Battery Co., D & L, and was a waitress at several different places. In retirement, she decided to go back to work at the Garden Center at Hy-Vee. Her hobbies included crossword puzzles, cooking, and reading.

Preceding her in death were her parents; husband: Gib Westover in 1985; sons: Danny and Gary Westover; grandson: Nicholas Westover; and many brothers and sisters. Survivors include her children: Nancy Hoffman of Red Oak; Patti Westover (Patrick Peirce) of Red Oak; Suzy Westover (Pete Hokenstad) of Red Oak; and Matt Westover of Red Oak; daughter-in-law:  Lori Westover of Red Oak; grandchildren: Stacy Vanderhoof (Kevin) of Red Oak; Jed Westover (Jennie) of Red Oak; Brad Spring (Alexa) of Red Oak; Brianna Spring of Shenandoah, IA; Brooke White (Ben) of Wheatridge, CO; Dillon Weeks (Emily) of Red Oak; Brandon McCunn (Stephanie) of Crestline, OH; Jake McCunn (Mechiel Magill) of Carson, IA; Mikayla Westover of Shenandoah, IA; Tanner Peirce of Red Oak; and Patick Peirce, Jr. of Zearing, IA; many great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; brothers: Don Hayes of Indiantown, FL; Everett Hayes (Hazel) of Ft. Lauderdale, FL; and Robert Hayes (Dottie) of Arizona; sisters: Judy Wheeler of Red Oak and Linda Rodgers (Greg) of Red Oak; and many other relatives and friends.

A celebration of life luncheon and visitation will be held from 11AM until 1 PM on Saturday, November 8, 2025, at the LeRette Funeral Chapel Community Room. A private family burial will take place at the Grant Cemetery near Grant, Iowa. In lieu of flowers memorials are suggested to the Red Oak Public Library.
