Birthplace: Red Oak, Iowa Resided In: Walnut, Iowa Marilyn J. Ranney, age 79, of Walnut, Iowa, passed away Thursday, March 29, 2012 at the Cass County Memorial Hospital in Atlantic, Iowa. Marilyn Jean Ranney was born June 16, 1932 in Red Oak, Iowa the daughter of Lloyd and Lillian "Mae" Andrews. She graduated from Red Oak High School in 1950 and was united in marriage to Eldon Ranney on November 30, 1952 at the Presbyterian Church in Red Oak. They lived in Red Oak for a short time before moving to Des Moines, Iowa. They lived in many different places over the years including Minnesota for 13 years before they moved back to Iowa. After retiring in Des Moines, Marilyn and Eldon moved to Walnut, Iowa in 1986 where they started an antique store called "Everybody's Attic". They later also owned "Victorian Rose" antique store also in Walnut. Marilyn and Eldon were very instrumental in the revitalization efforts in Walnut to become the "Antique City". She was a member of the Walnut AMVETS, Questers, and Walnut Merchants Association serving as President, and volunteered at the Walnut Welcome Center. After retirement in 2005, Marilyn enjoyed traveling and antiquing with friends. She most enjoyed being Mother, Grandmother, and Great Grandmother. Preceding her in death were her parents; brothers: Duane, Wilbur, and Gordon Andrews; and sister: Elaine Heuer. Survivors include her husband of nearly 60 years: Eldon Ranney of Walnut, IA; daughters: Susan McKay and husband David of Maple Grove, MN; Cynthia Groeneweg and Robert Wenger of St. Francis, MN; and Cheryl Ranney of Des Moines, IA; grandchildren: Daniel Lindstrom of Lake Tapps, WA; Rebecca Lindstrom of St. Michael, MN; Megan Lindstrom of Maple Grove, MN; Kaitlin Groeneweg of St. Paul, MN; Emily Groeneweg of St. Francis, MN; Jonathan Madison of Des Moines, IA; Jessica Madison of Des Moines, IA; Jenni McKay of Maple Grove, MN; David McKay of Plymouth, MN; and Jeremy McKay of Coon Rapids, MN; great grandchildren: Joshua, Callie, Taylor, Paige, Angelina, and Alexander; sister-in-law: Nancy Finken of Blair, NE; many nieces and nephews, other family and friends. A celebration of life service will be held 10:30 AM Monday, April 2, 2012 at the Red Oak Presbyterian Church in Red Oak, Iowa with Rev. Caryn Pedersen officiating. Burial of the cremated remains will be in the Evergreen Cemetery in Red Oak. Visitation will be held from 3-5 PM Sunday, April 1, 2012 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel in Red Oak. Memorials are suggested to the Cass County Hospice. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel of Red Oak, Iowa is in charge of arrangements.
