Marilyn Jean Gentry, age 88, of Red Oak, Iowa, passed away Monday, January 9, 2023, at Bergan Mercy Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska. Marilyn was born June 1, 1934, in Winterset, Iowa, the daughter of Emil and Velma (Breese) Stevens. She grew up in Winterset graduating high school in the class of 1952. Marilyn was united in marriage to Wayne Gentry on August 18, 1952 in Winterset, Iowa. Four children were born to this union: Bruce, Lynn, Brian, and Jo Ellen. They lived in Sioux City, Creston, and Griswold. Marilyn went to Iowa Western Community College to earn her designation as Medical Transcriptionist. She moved to Red Oak where she worked for Family Physician Clinic and Red Oak Dental Clinic. She also worked for Keith Gilroy Tax Accounting during tax season. Marilyn always enjoyed yard work and working in her flower beds that were immaculate. She also was quite creative and loved doing crafts, baking, and decorating for the holidays. Every day, Marilyn enjoyed doing her crossword puzzles.
Preceding her in death were her parents; daughter: Jo Ellen Gentry in 2005; brothers: Harry, Eldon, Jack, and Larry Stevens; sisters-in-law: Frances, Thelma, and Phyllis Stevens; and son-in-law: Richard Uherka. Survivors include her children: Bruce Gentry and wife Susan of Thurman, IA; Lynn Reynolds of Stanton, IA; and Brian Gentry of Emerson, IA; grandchildren: Justin Schomburg, Joshua Gentry, Kelsey Vennerberg and husband Daniel, and Jamie Gentry; great grandchildren: Owen and Olivia Peck; sister-in-law: Marge Stevens of Des Moines, IA; many nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends including her beloved cat, Chandler.
Graveside funeral services will be held 11 AM Saturday, January 14, 2023, at the Winterset Cemetery in Winterset, Iowa. Visitation with the family will be held from 5-7 PM Friday, January 13, 2023, at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel in Red Oak, Iowa. Memorials are suggested to the American Heart Association.
