Obituary

Birthplace: Rural Griswold, Iowa Resided In: Henderson, Iowa Marian Mabel (Snyder) Siefford of Henderson, Iowa, passed away peacefully November 19, 2012 in the Heartland Hospice Comfort Suite of Montgomery County Memorial Hospital in Red Oak, Iowa. Marian was born to Louis and Ella Snyder on their farm located east of Griswold, Iowa, May 21, 1915. She attended school in Griswold, Iowa, where she earned a teaching certification, but after graduation she went to care for stroke patient Vesta Siefford, who became her mother-in-law. Marian and John Siefford were married November 14, 1934. They became the parents of two daughters, Lois Jean and Bonnie Sue. Marian and John owned and cared for a farm in Mills County for over 50 years where they lived busy lives. They planted an enormous vegetable garden. Marian loved flowers and landscaped the yard using many perennials but she changed the color scheme every year with bright annuals. The late TV gardener, Frank Fields on KMA, mentioned her beautiful farm yard on his program many times, to Marian's delight. They attended the Henderson Christian Church where Marian belonged to the Ladies Aid Quilting Group. She marked the quilting designs for the ladies to hand sew. It is estimated the group worked on over 400 quilts. They were so expert that quilts were sent to them from all over the USA. Marian was particularly enthusiastic about Girls 4H and worked with the youth program for over 20 years. She mentored many of the young ladies in the Henderson vicinity, and her 4H Club - The Ambitious Andies - was the BEST in Mills County at many County Fairs When they moved from the farm, Marian and John became RV travelers. They went wherever the pickup could take them and enjoyed taking their grandson, Brian Bond, with them. Marian always said they stopped to see things when Brian was along that they would have bypassed alone. They fished, rock hunted, and antiqued all over Canada, Mexico and every state except Hawaii. No matter where they went, they always came home with a short stop at the Grand Canyon, which they admired. Marian is preceded in death by her husband, John, her parents and 4 of her 5 siblings. Survivors include one sister, Flossie Mattly of Griswold, Iowa; her daughters: Lois Jean Bradford and husband Guy of Henderson, Iowa and Bonnie Bond of Omaha, Nebraska; grandchildren: Brian Bond of Omaha, NE; Robin Smail and husband Bradley of State College, PA; and Dana Rudy of Tigard, OR; seven great grand children, other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held 10 AM Friday, November 23, 2012 at the Henderson Christian Church with Pastor Carl Brandt officiating. Burial will be in the Waveland Township Cemetery near Elliott, Iowa. Visitation with the family will be held half an hour prior to the services at the church. Memorials are suggested to the Henderson First Responders. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
