Birthplace: Emerson, Iowa Resided In: Red Oak, Iowa Margaret Shaw Waltz, age 95, of Red Oak, Iowa passed away Thursday, December 2, 2004 at the Red Oak Rehab and Care Center. Margaret Shaw Waltz was born January 12, 1909 in Emerson, Iowa the daughter of Frank and Nettie (Nims) Shaw. The family moved to Red Oak in 1919 to a farm east of town which is still her home. Margaret was baptized and became a member of the First United Methodist Church in 1921. She graduated from Red Oak High School in 1927 and attended Simpson College graduating in 1931. After graduating with degrees in Home Economics and Music she taught at Coburg, Prairie City and Wales, Iowa. Margaret was united in marriage to Horace Waltz on the family farm in 1934. Margaret was a 4-H leader and judged many 4-H shows throughout the years. She was also very active in her church and the United Methodist Women. Her hobbies were flowers, painting, music, sewing, and quilting. One of her highlights was a quilt show at the 1996 Red Oak Junction Days Celebration. She displayed 89 quilts she had fabricated. Margaret was preceded in death by her parents; husband: Horace Waltz on February 26, 1971; 2 sisters: Dorothy Lawton and Jeanette Holaday; and grandson: Paul Borthwick. Survivors include her 2 daughters: Alicemary Borthwick and husband Gordon of Grinnell, Iowa; and Ellen Boydston and husband Everett of St. Joseph, Missouri; son: Jon Waltz and wife Jane of Red Oak, Iowa; 9 grandchildren: Steven Borthwick of Milwaukee, Wisconsin; John Borthwick and wife Diane of Lenexa, Kansas; Karen Weaver and husband Scott of Overland Park, Kansas; Eric Boydston of Camden Point, Missouri; Brent Boydston and wife Melody of Dearborn, Missouri; Ann Seider and husband Gary of Centralia, Missouri; Peter Waltz and wife Holly of Algona, Iowa; Eileen Waltz of Red Oak, Iowa; and Grant Waltz of West Des Moines, Iowa; 8 great grandchildren: Kathryn and Sean Weaver; Kaleb and Luke Boydston; Aaron, Lauren, and Audrey Seider; and Harrison Waltz; many nieces and nephews; and many other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held 10:30 AM Monday, December 6, 2004 at the First United Methodist Church with Rev. Nancy Schultz officiating. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be held from 6:30-8 PM Sunday, December 5, 2004 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel. In lieu of flowers memorials are suggested to the First United Methodist Church or the Simpson College Scholarship Fund. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
