Birthplace: Malvern, Iowa Resided In: Red Oak, Iowa Margaret A. McAlpin, age 82, of Red Oak, Iowa passed away, Tuesday, December 22, 2009 at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital after an extended illness. Margaret A. McAlpin was born September 29, 1927 in Malvern, Iowa the daughter of Charles and Velma (McCurdy) Herrick. The family moved to Red Oak when Margaret was a young girl. She graduated from Red Oak High School in 1945 and worked for Askey Feeds before her marriage. She was united in marriage to William McAlpin in 1948 at the Little Brown Church at Nashua, Iowa. Three children were born to this union: Barb, Randy, and Rod. Later in her life she worked at Schoenberg's Clothing Store and Connor's Department Store. She was a long time member of the Red Oak Presbyterian Church, the Rebecca Church Circle, and Presbyterian Women. She was also a member of the Order of Eastern Star serving as Worthy Matron and volunteered with the Meals on Wheels program. Margaret enjoyed Nebraska Football and often would make food and watch the games with her family at the Red Oak Tap. Margaret always enjoyed her family especially spending time with her grandchildren. Preceding Margaret in death were her parents; sister: Audrey Smith and her husband Jack; sister-in-law: Jo Herrick; and grandson: Randy Click. Survivors include her children: Barb Trumble and husband Fred of Red Oak, Iowa; Randy McAlpin of Cheyenne, Wyoming; and Rod McAlpin and wife Connie of Red Oak, Iowa; 12 grandchildren; many great grandchildren; sister: Marjorie Lloyd of Ferndale, Washington; brother: Keith Herrick of Loveland, Colorado; many nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held 10:30 AM Tuesday, December 29, 2009 at the Red Oak Presbyterian Church with Rev. Caryn Pedersen officiating. Burial will be in the Malvern, Iowa Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be held from 7-8 PM Monday, December 28, 2009 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel. Memorials are suggested to the Red Oak Presbyterian Church or the Red Oak Volunteer Fire and Rescue Association. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
