Birthplace: Elliott, Iowa Resided In: Winterset, Iowa Margaret L. Laire, age 78, of Winterset, Iowa formerly Red Oak, Iowa, passed away Thursday, March 26, 2009 at the West Bridge Care and Rehabilitation Center in Winterset. Margaret Louise Laire was born February 7, 1931 in Elliott, Iowa the daughter of Forrest and Molly Marie (McVay) Abramson. She graduated from Elliott High School in 1948 and worked for Northwestern Bell Telephone Company. Margaret was united in marriage to Newell Laire on November 15, 1953 in Glenwood, Iowa. They lived most of their married life in their home near Stennett, Iowa. Margaret was a homemaker for many years and later worked for Montgomery County National Bank which later became Firstar Bank from which she retired. She was member of the Stratton United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School and sang in the choir. She enjoyed crocheting, knitting, canning, playing cards, puzzles, and most of all her grandchildren. Margaret moved to Winterset, Iowa two years ago to be close to her family. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband: Newell Laire on April 5, 2005; grandchildren: Candy and Carly; sisters: Bonnie Tye, Libby Tye, and Wilma Taylor; and nephew: Patrick Tye. Survivors include her children: Nancy Raney and husband Larry of Winterset, Iowa; Marshall Laire of Van Meter, Iowa; and Mark Laire of Van Meter, Iowa; grandchildren: Michael McFarland of Winterset, Iowa; Jeremy McFarland and wife Maria of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; Makaela Laire of Des Moines, Iowa; Aaleah Laire of Des Moines, Iowa; Kaylee Laire of Cumming, Iowa; and Anna Laire of Cumming, Iowa; sisters: Barbara Hansen and husband Norman of Ozark, Missouri and Alice Rife of Omaha, Nebraska; sister-in-law: Awanda Woods of Red Oak, Iowa; step-grandchildren: Todd Raney and wife Kami of Lorimor, Iowa; Jamie Raney and wife Valerie of Elkader, Iowa; and Melissa Schieffer and husband Todd of Davenport, Iowa; and many other relatives and friends. Memorial services will be held 10 AM Monday, March 30, 2009 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel with Rev. Dr. Eric Kutzli officiating. Burial of the cremated remains will be in the Hillside Cemetery at Elliott, Iowa. Visitation with the family will be held from 2-4 PM Sunday, March 29, 2009 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel. Memorials are suggested to the Middle River Hospice of Winterset, Iowa. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
