Birthplace: Elkhorn, Iowa Resided In: Red Oak, Iowa Mardell Arlene Fort, age 83, of Red Oak, Iowa, passed away Friday, April 9, 2021, at her home. Mardell was born November 27, 1937 in Elkhorn, Iowa, the daughter of Herb and Verda (Petersen) Peterson. Mardell met LaVerne Fort and they married on June 19, 1954 in Red Oak, Iowa. They made Red Oak their home for most of their married life. Four children were born to this union: Curtis, Lonnie, Brenda, and Tony. Over the years, she worked for Union Carbide, a hospital in Des Moines, and babysitting in Red Oak. She loved taking care of children. She loved spending time with her own children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Mardell was baptized as one of Jehovah's Witnesses on September 4, 1956. Preceding her in death were her parents and husband: LaVerne Fort. Survivors include her children: Curtis Fort and wife Carol of Shenandoah, Iowa; Lonnie Fort and wife Kathy, Brenda Hayes and husband Russ, and Tony Fort and wife Jana all of Red Oak, Iowa; 7 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; 2 step-grandchildren; sister: Marilyn Long of Red Oak, Iowa; and many other relatives and friends. There will be no services at this time. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
