Birthplace: Red Oak, Iowa Resided In: Red Oak, Iowa Marcia Jane Hummel, age 61, of Red Oak, Iowa, passed away suddenly at her home on Thursday, February 10, 2011. Marcia Jane Hummel was born April 18, 1949 in Red Oak, Iowa the daughter of Victor and Marilee (Williams) Thomas. She was raised in Red Oak and moved to Stanton where she graduated high school in 1968. She was united in marriage to Richard Hummel on June 1, 1968. They lived in Coin for two years before moving back to Red Oak where Marcia worked for Thomas D. Murphy Company, Casey's General Store, Vista Gardens Nursing Home, and currently Good Samaritan Society. She enjoyed knitting, sewing, playing cards at Phyllis Hummel's on Saturdays, camping, fishing, being outdoors, collecting bears, feeding birds, scrap booking, computer games, and doing crafts. She loved spending time with her kids helping them do whatever they needed even if it meant fixing or loading cars on trailers. She enjoyed the travels she and Richard took to England, Belgium, Scotland, and France to visit their son, Phillip. They traveled to Florida where they spent many hours touring Disney World. She had the most fun spending time with her grandkids and family as she was an outstanding wife, mother, and grandmother. She had a very gentle way and was very outgoing. Marcia was preceded in death by her father-in-law: Max Hummel. Survivors include her husband: Richard Hummel of Red Oak, IA; children: Tony Hummel and friend Glenna Sellers of Red Oak, IA; Philip Hummel of Fawn Grove, PA; and Allan Hummel and wife Melissa of Red Oak, IA; grandchildren: Ryan Hummel, Amy Hummel, and Jacob Hummel; Geoffrey and Jake Sellers; Nathan and Destiny Hummel; Sadie Linfor; Ethan Hummel; and expecting another; parents: Victor and Marilee Thomas of Boone, IA; sister: Vicky Gustafson and husband Rick of Boone, IA; brothers: Ben Thomas and wife Janelle of Ohio and Andy Thomas and wife Julie of Bedford, IA; foster brother: Steve Masters and wife Julie of Red Oak, IA; mother-in-law: Phyllis Hummel of Red Oak, IA; brothers-in-law: Donald Hummel and wife Kathy of Red Oak, IA and Gary Hummel and wife Ethel of Shenandoah, IA; and many other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held 2 PM Wednesday, February 16, 2011 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be held from 6-8 PM Tuesday, February 15, 2011 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel. Memorials are suggested to the family. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
