Birthplace: Mills County, Iowa Resided In: Red Oak, Iowa Mamie Cathern Forward, age 84, of Red Oak, Iowa, passed away Thursday, April 16, 2015 at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital. Mamie was born July 14, 1930 in Mills County, Iowa near Henderson, the daughter of Marion Joseph and Nora Bell (McGee) Smith. She graduated from Macedonia High School in 1949 and started working at the bank in Macedonia. She was united in marriage to Daniel "Bruce" Forward on April 8, 1951 in Henderson, Iowa. They moved to Kentucky while Bruce was in the Military and returned to Emerson, Iowa eventually moving to Henderson, Iowa where they lived for many years. Mamie was a homemaker and after raising her children, worked at Powell School. She also was a Home Health Aid after taking classes at Iowa Western Community College. She was a long time member of the Henderson Christian Church where she played the piano and organ and taught Sunday school. She was quite talented at hand work including embroidery, crocheting, and calligraphy. She was an avid reader enjoying Louis L'Amour books and she enjoyed baking and cooking. Preceding her in death were her parents; husband: Bruce Forward on April 2, 1999; son: Melvin Forward; granddaughter: Patricia Marie Forward; and brothers: Charles and Donald Smith. Survivors include her children: Cathy Forward of Red Oak; Darvin Forward of Red Oak; Bryan Forward and wife Deb of Red Oak; David Forward and wife LouAnn of Glidden, IA; and Penny Carlson and husband Greg of Council Bluffs, IA; daughter-in-law: Carlotta Forward of Lakeview, IA; grandchildren: Stephen Carlson of Council Bluffs; Stephanie Carlson of Council Bluffs; Greg Nehring of Glidden; Jeff Nehring and wife Kristin of Willey, IA; TJ Prevatte of Tucson, AZ; and Angela Aughe of Red Oak; 5 great grandchildren; sister: Ruby Godfrey and husband Don of Emerson, IA; many nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held 10:30 AM Monday, April 20, 2015 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel with Pastor David MacDonald officiating. Burial will be in the Macedonia, Iowa Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be held from 3-5 PM Sunday, April 19, 2015 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel. A memorial fund is being established in Mamie's memory. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
