Obituary

Birthplace: Rural Villisca, Iowa Resided In: Red Oak, Iowa Mae Deane Gravett, age 85, of Red Oak, Iowa, passed away Tuesday, March 10, 2015 at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital. Mae was born April 3, 1929 near Villisca, Iowa the daughter of Roy and Deane (Peugh) Younkin. She was raised near Mercer, Missouri and graduated from the Ravana, Missouri High School. After graduation she moved to Red Oak, Iowa to work at the Union Carbide Plant. Mae was united in marriage to William L. Gravett on February 11, 1951 in Omaha, Nebraska. They made their home in Red Oak, Iowa and while Bill was in the service Mae traveled to Indian Town Gap, PA, Fort Benning, GA, and Camp Roberts, CA, so she could spend time with him. Most of her adult years were spent raising her children including being a Den Mother for the Cub Scouts. She was also a member of the Young Mothers Club. Mae helped Bill on the family farm and also with building homes and apartments in the area. She also worked seasonally for Henry Fields in Shenandoah. Mae was always a great encouragement to others and had a "you can do it" attitude which she taught others by example. She always enjoyed people and going to her class reunions to see long time friends. Her thoughtfulness and friendly nature was part of what made her special. She was an avid gardener who loved the outdoors and flowers, especially "Peace" roses. She was quite talented and expressed her view of the natural landscapes with her painting. Mae was a member of the Emerson Baptist Church and the Ladies MMA. May God bless her as He welcomes her home. Preceding her in death were her parents; infant brother: Clinton Younkin; sisters: Rheva Foger and Sunshine Swanburg; and grandson: Cort Martin. Survivors include her husband of 64 years: William Gravett of Red Oak, Iowa; children: Deanna Martin and husband Tim of Palm Springs, CA; Clint Gravett of Emerson, IA; and Penny England and husband Don of Red Oak, IA; 7 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; sister: Mary Eggleston of Grand Junction, CO; brothers-in-law: Galen Gravett of Minnesota and Roy Gravett of Carson, IA; and many other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held 10:30 AM Friday, March 13, 2015 at the Emerson Baptist Church. Burial will be in the Emerson Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be held from 6-8 PM Thursday, March 12, 2015 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel. Memorials are suggested to the Emerson Baptist Church. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
