Birthplace: Rowan County, Kentucky Resided In: Red Oak, Iowa Marie Kathaleen "Kay" Neuschwanger, age 92, of Red Oak, Iowa passed away Sunday, December 28, 2008 at the Good Samaritan Care Center. Marie Kathaleen Neuschwanger was born July 26, 1916 in Rowan County, Kentucky the daughter of William Austin and Pearl Iva (Riley) Kinser. She lived in Kentucky and Ohio before moving to Iowa with her parents in 1923. She attended country grade schools through 8th grade and attended Elliott High School graduating in 1933. She lived in the Grant, Elliott and Griswold area during this time. Kay was a book keeper, secretary, and administrative assistant for over 50 years retiring in 1983. She moved to Red Oak in 1940 and was united in marriage to Earl Neuschwanger on March 2, 1941 at the First Presbyterian Church. Over the years Kay worked for C.S. Fridolph Real Estate, Montgomery Ward as Credit Manager, 18 years with Securities Acceptance Corporation, and 12 years with Hawkeye Bancorporation. Kay was a longtime member of the Red Oak Presbyterian Church joining what was then the First Presbyterian Church on April 13, 1941. She was very active as Elder, Trustee, Sunday School Teacher, President of Presbyterian Women as well as Treasurer, Circle Chairman, Clerk of Session, and Chairman of the Memorial Committee and many other offices throughout the years. Together with Earl, they served many years in visitation with shut-ins of their church. Kay also did volunteer work at the hospital for many years. Kay and Earl loved to travel and spent all their vacations camping, hiking, and sight-seeing in the mountains which they loved so much. Kay was preceded in death by her parents; her husband: Earl on July 25, 1985; sisters: Wanda Schultz and Bette Smith; brothers: W.E. Kinser and Jack Kinser, along with many other relatives. Survivors include many nieces and nephews including Lonnie Bonnes and husband Bruce of Derby, KS; Linda Massie and husband John of Tucson, AZ; Karla Schultz of St. Louis, MO; Kristi Bitler and husband Marc of Derby, KS; Deborah Annett and husband Harrold of Des Moines, IA; Jim Kinser and wife Connie of Winterset, IA; Gary Kinser of Griswold, IA; Michael Smith of Des Moines, IA; and Monte Kinser and wife Penny of Glenwood, IA; and many other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held 2 PM Tuesday, December 30, 2008 at the Red Oak Presbyterian Church with Rev. Caryn Pedersen officiating. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be held 1 hour prior to the funeral service at the church. Memorials are suggested to the Red Oak Presbyterian Church. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
