Obituary

Birthplace: Montgomery County, Iowa Resided In: Atlantic formerly Red Oak, IA M. Lucille Maxell, age 93, of Atlantic, Iowa formerly of Red Oak, Iowa passed away Wednesday, December 20, 2006 at the Heritage House in Atlantic, Iowa. Mary "Lucille" Maxell was born April 8, 1913 on her maternal Grandparent's farm near the intersection of what is now highway 48 and the Stennett Road. She was one of three daughters and four sons of Francis and Olvie (Spragg) Jervis. Lucille graduated from Elliott High School in 1931. She was united in marriage to John R. Maxell on May 20, 1934 in Nebraska City, Nebraska. Lucille and John were longtime Red Oak residents where Lucille worked for the USDA retiring in 1978. John passed away on January 18, 1999. Lucille then moved to the Heritage House in Atlantic. She was a longtime member of the Order of Eastern Star serving as Worthy Matron and was a member of the Mother's club where she served as president. Lucille was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two sisters; and three brothers. Survivors include her son: John D. Maxell of Houston, Texas; grandson: John T. Maxell and wife Deb of Omaha, Nebraska; granddaughter: Teri Lighthart and husband Pat and their three children, Nicole, Amanda, and Molly all of Omaha, Nebraska; brother: Glen Jervis and wife Dianne of Marshalltown, Iowa; 3 sisters-in-law: Effie Mewhirter of Atlantic, Iowa; Ruth Beck of Lawrence, Kansas; and Iona Maxell of Stanton, Iowa; many nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held 10:30 AM Saturday, December 23, 2006 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel with Rev. Nancy Schultz officiating. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 7-8 PM Friday, December 22, 2006 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
