Obituary

Lynn "Jay" Morrison, age 76, of Red Oak, Iowa, passed away Tuesday, July 22, 2025, at the Jennie Edmundson Hospital. Jay was born on January 5, 1949, in Long Beach, California, the son of J.T. and Ruth (Downing) Morrison. He grew up in Long Beach graduating from Jordan High School in 1966. He loved playing baseball and football and was drafted by the Los Angeles Dodgers. He attended Jr College in Long Beach and graduated from the University of New Mexico in 1970. While in college, he played football and baseball and again was drafted by the Dodgers and later the Rams. He was united in marriage to Janet Hazen Bissell in 1974, and one son was born to this union: Dallas. In the early years he worked at UPS and was also a welder. He worked many jobs throughout his life, most recently Ace Hardware. Jay also served in the Navy for a short time.

Preceding him in death were his parents. Survivors include his son: Dallas Morrison of Red Oak; step-children: Patty Meek and husband Randy of Red Oak; Lonnie Bissell and wife Roxanne of Henderson, Iowa; and Sandra Kimpson of Oxford, Arkansas; grandchildren: Marin Morrison of Elkhorn, Nebraska; Easton Morrison of Red Oak; Phoenix Gaunt and husband David of Nodaway, Iowa; Wade Meek and wife Anna of Red Oak; Cheyenne Meek of Red Oak; and Cole Meek of Red Oak; sister: Donna Slatton and husband Jim of Savannah, Georgia; and many other relatives and friends.

A celebration of life visitation will be held from 11 AM - 1 PM Saturday, August 16, 2025, at LeRette Funeral Chapel with a time of fellowship and food to follow until 4 PM at Stadium 34. Memorials are suggested to the JVAA.
