Birthplace: Rural Red Oak, Iowa Resided In: Red Oak, Iowa Luther B. Hanson, age 93, of Red Oak, Iowa, passed away Friday, December 19, 2014 at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital. Luther was born December 10, 1921 near Red Oak, Iowa, the son of John and Hulda (Falk) Hanson. He was raised in the Red Oak area and served in the United States Army during WWII. He was united in marriage to Patricia Garrett in a parsonage in Elliot, Iowa in 1948. They lived in Omaha and Council Bluffs for almost 20 years where Luther was an over the road truck driver for Union Freightways which later became P.I.E. In the early 1970's, Luther moved to Red Oak and the surrounding area where he worked for and retired from the Farmers Mercantile Company. He loved older good quality vacuum-tube radios, music, playing the harmonica and guitar, shooting guns, and in his younger years was an excellent ice skater, roller skater, and baseball player. His skates will be donated to the Page County Museum in Clarinda, IA. Preceding him in death were his parents; daughter: Elizabeth Barnes; infant brother: Harold Wayne Hanson; brothers: Nels, Ernest, and Bill Hanson; and sisters: Frances Carlson, Evelyn Bellew, and Virginia Woods. Survivors include his children: Ruth Miller and husband Richard of Silver City, IA; Dave Hanson of Tucson, AZ; Mary Gardner and husband Bill of Omaha, NE; John Hanson and wife Joyce of Littleton, CO; and Paul Hanson of Tucson, AZ; son-in-law: Timothy Barnes of Mineola, IA; 13 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren with 2 more on the way; sisters: Jean Runte of Council Bluffs, IA; Ida Henderson and husband Francis of St. Joseph, MO; and Delores Gregorious and husband Walter of Rio Rancho, NM; many many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. Graveside funeral services with military honors will be held 11 AM Monday, December 29, 2014 at the Salem Cemetery in rural Montgomery County. Family and friends will meet at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel by 10:30 AM to go to the cemetery in procession. A luncheon will be provided by the Grace Baptist Church in Red Oak. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
