Birthplace: Wales, Iowa Resided In: Elliott, Iowa Lucy T. Bergren, age 97, of Elliott, Iowa passed away, Tuesday, November 11, 2003 at the Red Oak Rehab and Care Center in Red Oak after an extended illness. Lucy Theresa Sophia Bergren was born October 2, 1906 in Lincoln Township of Montgomery County near Wales, Iowa the daughter of Lewis and Mary (Lindner) Spangenberg. Lucy was raised in the Wales area and was united in marriage to Vernon Bergren on August 28, 1930 in Nebraska City, Nebraska. They moved to rural Elliott, Iowa in the early 1930's. They farmed until retiring in 1968 at which time they moved into Elliott. Vernon preceded Lucy in death on March 28, 1995. Lucy was a member of the United Methodist Church and the Order of Eastern Star in Elliott. Lucy has been a resident of the Red Oak Rehab and Care Center since 1995. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband: Vernon; 4 brothers: Edward, Ernest, Franklin, and Louis; 2 granddaughters: Darcy Bergren; and Lori Hershner; and a great granddaughter: Darcy. Survivors include her 2 sons: Jerry Bergren and his wife Lee of Ames, Iowa; and Dennis Bergren of Cottage Grove, Wisconsin; daughter: Trudy Hershner and husband Warren of Richville, Minnesota; 5 grandchildren: Bradley Bergren of Brookfield, Wisconsin; DeAnn Bergren of Tampa, Florida; Eric Bergren of Chicago, Illinois; Marc Bergren of Charlotte, North Carolina; and Todd Hershner of Fergus Falls, Minnesota; 6 great grandchildren: Joey, Nicole, Jack, Joey, Arianna, and Madaline; sister: Mildred Danbom of Red Oak, Iowa; and many other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held 11 AM Saturday, November 15, 2003 at the Elliott United Methodist Church in Elliott, Iowa. Pastor Gordon Scott will officiate. Burial will be in the Gomer Cemetery at Wales, Iowa. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel in Red Oak is in charge of arrangements.
