Obituary

Arthur "Lowell" Hardy, age 87, of Emerson, Iowa, passed away Sunday, March 6, 2022, at the Exira Care Center in Exira, Iowa. Lowell was born March 18, 1934, in Malvern, Iowa, the son of Corwin Arthur and Lelia Ione (Fletcher) Hardy. In June of 1954, he was drafted into the United States Army and served most of his tour of duty in Mannheim, Germany. He was united in marriage to Doris Burrington on December 18, 1956. They were later divorced. Lowell worked for Keith Bruce, a local farmer and cattle feeder from February of 1957 until January of 1970. During this time, the family moved to Emerson, Iowa in March of 1968. In January of 1970, Lowell started working for the State of Iowa Road Department. He was united in marriage to Kay Brown on September 13, 1978 in Buffalo, Wyoming. Lowell continued working for the State of Iowa until his retirement in 1997. He was an active member of the Emerson community, serving on the city council, volunteer fire department, serving as Chief, Community Club, serving as President, and the American Legion Post # 575, serving as Commander, and was a longtime member of the Emerson United Methodist Church. He did all things with honesty, integrity, and respect. Lowell was preceded in death by his parents; wife: Kay; and siblings: Leonard, Stella, Lois, Sherril, and Mary; and grandson: Neil Staples. Survivors include his children: Twyla Rivera and husband John of Moore, OK; Dale Hardy and wife Kitty of Omaha, NE; and Judy Moore and husband Terry of Griswold, IA; grandchildren: Chris Staples of D'Iberville, MS; Jennifer Wolff and husband Chris of Fussa, Japan; Nick Hardy and wife Anna of Omaha, NE; Seth Hardy of Omaha, NE; Jamey Moore; Samantha Fiebelkorn and husband Jacob of Exira, IA; Tiffani Davis and husband Joe of Omaha, NE; and Melissa Johnson of Omaha, NE; great grandchildren: Taylor Davis, Marcus Graham, Ayden Davis, Alyssa Stogner, Jordan Stogner, Nicholas Stogner, Katie Stogner, Luke Wolff, Logan Wolff, Elsie Hardy, Emerson Hardy, Ryder Perdue, Rayden Moore, Jayce Fiebelkorn, Jozey Fiebelkorn, and Jayden Fiebelkorn; siblings: LaVern Hardy and wife Bev, Merle Hardy and wife Vickie; Donnie Hardy and wife Shielah; Carolyn Owen; Bonnie Abbott and husband Jim; Bevy Phillips and husband Wayne; and Ellen Driskell (who passed away one week after Lowell); special companion: Elsie Gray of Red Oak, IA; very special friends: Joe and Marla Worthington of Red Oak, IA; and many other relatives and friends. A memorial visitation will be held from 9 AM -12 PM Saturday, April 30, 2022, at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel. Interment services will be held after the visitation at the Emerson, Iowa Cemetery with military and fire department honors. A luncheon will be held at the Emerson Community Building. Memorials are suggested to the Emerson American Legion #575. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
