Birthplace: Decatur, NE Resided In: Morrison, CO formerly Union, IA and Elliott, IA Louella M. Brown, age 81, of Lakewood, Colorado formerly of Union, Iowa and Elliott, Iowa, passed away Friday, February 18, 2011 at the Bear Creek Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Morrison, Colorado. Louella Mae Brown was born November 7, 1929 in Decatur, Nebraska the daughter of Joel and Emma (Parsons) Gatewood. She was raised in Decatur, Nebraska and graduated with the class of 1947. She was united in marriage to William Henry Brown on March 30, 1949 in Hawthorne, California. They lived in Elliott, Iowa from 1950-1962. They moved to Denver in 1962 and retired to Union, Iowa in 1987. She was a member of the Union Community Church where she was active with the "Helping Hands" ministry and the church bazaar gaining notoriety with her wonderful pies. She enjoyed quilting, canning, and cooking. She was also active in the Kiwanis Club for many years. Louella was a hard worker and worked several different jobs during her life, most notably as a floral arranger and business owner, operating a Tasty Freeze in Lakewood, Colorado. Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband: William Henry Brown in 2005; and siblings: Lillian Gatewood, Ray Gatewood, Dale Gatewood, and Lucille Penny. Survivors include her children: Toni Mackelprang of Charleston, SC; Teresa Lounsberry and husband Art of Lakewood, CO; and William David Brown and wife Janna of Lakewood, CO; grandchildren: John Mackelprang and wife Shonna of Charleston, SC; Keely Gohl and husband Matt of Castle Rock, CO; and Joey Brown of Lakewood, CO; great grandchildren: Saffiya Mackelprang, Elise Gohl, and Hayden Gohl; brother: Joel Gatewood of Omaha, NE; sisters: Jackie Erickson and husband Bob of Perry, KS and Gertrude Maryott of Elkhorn, NE; and many other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held 11 AM Saturday, February 26, 2011 at the Elliott United Methodist Church with burial in the Hillside Cemetery at Elliott. Visitation with the family will be held one hour prior to the funeral at the church. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeal Chapel, Red Oak, Iowa, is in charge of arrangements.
