Birthplace: Rural Essex, Iowa Resided In: Mankato, MN formerly Red Oak, IA Lorraine Joyce (Klepinger) Neveln, age 82, of Mankato, Minnesota, formerly of Red Oak, Iowa, passed away Sunday, February 5, 2017 at Mayo Clinic Health System in Mankato, Minnesota. Lorraine was born April 13, 1934 at the family farm in rural Essex, Iowa to Glenn and Edna (Burr) Klepinger. She was raised on the farm and graduated from Shenandoah High School. Lorraine was united in marriage to Gene Neveln in 1955. Following their divorce, Lorraine settled in Red Oak and raised three children. She moved to Minnesota 28 years ago. Lorraine enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren, supporting their many interests. "Grandma" attended nearly all of their sporting events, concerts, and other various activities, and was their #1 fan. She also enjoyed cheering on the Minnesota sports teams and loved keeping up on current events. Her faith was very important to her, carrying her through her life journey. Preceding her in death were her parents, brothers Lowell and LaMott Klepinger, sister Marvis Carter, brother-in-law Harold Carter, sister-in-law Beverly Klepinger, daughter-in-law Kathy Neveln, and niece Marcia Pringle. Survivors include son Randy Neveln (Dar Lacher) of New Ulm, Minnesota; son Gregg Neveln of Ames, Iowa; daughter Valerie (Dan) Miller of St. Clair, Minnesota; sister-in-law Leona Klepinger of Marshalltown, Iowa; grandchildren Joel Neveln of Ames, Iowa; Mike (Azure) Neveln of Campton, New Hampshire; Jenny (Kyle) Jonland of New Hope, Minnesota; Jacob and Madison Miller of St. Clair, Minnesota; great grandchildren Kailyn and Kason Jonland of New Hope, Minnesota; and many nieces, nephews and friends. She was also eagerly anticipating the arrival of her third great grandchild in March. Her presence will always be felt and her infectious smile will be missed by many. A celebration of life service will be held 10:30 AM Friday, February 10, 2017 at the Faith Covenant Church in Essex, Iowa. Burial will be in the Essex Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be held from 5-7 PM Thursday, February 9, 2017 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel in Red Oak. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
