Zeta "Lorene" Mitchell, age 100, of Red Oak, Iowa, passed away Tuesday, April 23, 2024, at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital. Lorene was born April 8, 1924, in Adams County, Iowa, the daughter of Howard and Ethel (Hoyt) Mitchell. She was raised in the Adams County area where she attended school. She helped on the family farm and worked for Union Carbide in Red Oak before moving to Iowa City where she lived for 40 years. She worked in the restaurant business in the kitchen. Lorene loved to drive, drove well into her later years, and always loved new cars. She also enjoyed word search puzzles.

Preceding her in death were her parents and four sisters: Irene Walker, Doris Newberg, Hazel Palmer, and Betty McMorran. She is survived by many nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends including local relatives Ivan Beck and wife Ruth of Red Oak and Gene Palmer and wife Rose of Red Oak.

Funeral services will be held 1 PM Saturday, April 27, 2024, at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel in Red Oak, Iowa. Burial will be in the Quincy Cemetery at Corning, Iowa. Visitation with the family will be held one hour prior to the funeral at the funeral home.
