Lorell Gene Viner, age 87, of Red Oak, Iowa, passed away Thursday, July 11, 2024, at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital. Gene was born February 27, 1937, in Henderson, Iowa, the son of Lorell Maxwell and Eva Nina (Carlstedt) Viner. The family moved to the Red Oak area when Gene was a young boy. He graduated from Red Oak High School in 1955 and served in the military until being discharged from the United States Marines in 1958. Gene was united in marriage to Virginia "Ginger" Sears on September 20, 1959, in Red Oak. They lived all of their life in Red Oak. Over the years, Gene farmed with his dad, worked at Lee's Honda, and retired from Union Carbide/Eveready Battery Company. Gene loved riding motorcycles, camping, playing cards, swimming, going south in the motorhome, and spending time with his family, especially the grandkids.

Preceding him in death were his parents; wife: Ginger Viner on February 11, 2018; daughter: Cindi Perdue on April 21, 2022; sister: Marilyn Bell; brothers-in-law: Charles "Sonny" Sears and Duane Boehne; and sister-in-law: Sallye Sears. Survivors include his children: Wayne Viner and wife Kathy of Madison, WI; Vicki Sellers and husband Mike of Red Oak, IA; and Wendi Harris and husband Doug of Council Bluffs, IA; son-in-law: Doug Perdue of Bradshaw, NE; grandchildren: Miranda Martin and husband Chris of Benedict, NE; Jason Perdue and wife Karah of York, NE; Josie Viner of Madison, WI; Erika Driver of Red Oak, IA; Brandon Updegrove and wife Sarah of Lake Park, IA; Geoff Sellers and wife Lydia of Urbandale, IA; Jake Sellers of Storm Lake, IA; Nick Houtchens and wife Laysha of Des Moines, IA; Merika Houtchens of Des Moines, IA; Cami Harris of Lincoln, NE; and Carli Harris of Bellevue, NE; 14 great grandchildren; sister: Donna Boehne of Plattsmouth, NE, and many other relatives and friends.

Graveside funeral services will be held 11 AM Monday, July 15, 2024, at the Farm Creek Cemetery at Henderson, Iowa. Family and friends will gather at Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel by 10:30 AM to go to the cemetery in procession. Visitation with the family will be held from 4-6 PM Sunday, July 14, 2024, at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel. Memorials are suggested to the Indian Creek Historical Society or the Montgomery County Family YMCA.
