Birthplace: Red Oak, Iowa Resided In: Elliott, Iowa Lonnie D. Ross, age 43, of Elliott, Iowa passed away Tuesday, August 31, 2004 from injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident near his home. Lonnie Dean Ross was born August 31, 1961 in Red Oak, Iowa the son of Clarence and Ruth (Long) Ross. He was raised near Elliott, Iowa and graduated from the Griswold High School in 1980. Lonnie was united in marriage to Gail Baldwin on July 31, 1982 in Villisca, Iowa. They have lived most of their married life near Elliott, Iowa. Most recently Lonnie was working at the Nishna Valley Cycles in Atlantic, Iowa. Lonnie's passion was his motorcycles and racing. He traveled to Spain and Australia with his Enduro Racing. While in Australia he won a silver medal in the international six day event. He was a member of Team USA. Lonnie loved his family, friends, and his dog, Shorty, who rode in the sidecar of his motorcycle. He was preceded in death by his grandparents: Ada Long; and Ed and Frances Ross; and father-in-law: Joe Baldwin; and uncles: Leslie Long, Roy Dickerson and Paul Platt. Survivors include his wife: Gail Ross of Elliott, Iowa; parents: Clarence and Ruth Ross of Elliott, Iowa; sister: Shirley Strauss and husband Brook of Elliott, Iowa; brother: Mike Kelly and wife Vickie of Elliott, Iowa; nephews: Cory Smith and Trinton Strauss both of Elliott, Iowa; aunts and uncles including Pete Ross of Elliott, Iowa; Marion Ross and wife Esther of Stanton, Iowa; Dorothy Dickerson of Emerson, Iowa; Fern Platt of Red Oak, Iowa; Susan Chetterly of Red Oak, Iowa; Nancy Bledsoe and husband Roger of Council Bluffs, Iowa; and Danny Long and wife LaVerna of Villisca, Iowa; and Mr. and Mrs. Rick Sprague of Iowa, Louisiana; mother-in-law: Dorothy Baldwin of Villisca, Iowa; 3 brothers-in-law: Richard Baldwin and friend Kim of Grant, Iowa; Marvin Baldwin and wife Liz of Malvern, Iowa; and Kenneth Baldwin and wife Melinda of Villisca, Iowa; and many other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held 1 PM Friday, September 3, 2004 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel with Rev. Gordon Scott officiating. Burial will be in the Hillside Cemetery in Elliott, Iowa. Visitation with the family will be held from 6-8 PM Thursday, September 2, 2004 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel. A memorial fund is being established in Lonnie's name. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
