Obituary

Birthplace: Montgomery County, Iowa Resided In: Red Oak, Iowa Lois Meek, age 91, of Red Oak, Iowa, passed away Tuesday, August 22, 2006 at the Good Samaritan Care Center after an extended illness. Lois Meek was born November 3, 1914 in Pilot Grove Township of Montgomery County, Iowa the daughter of Vernon and Nellie (Pettit) Kneedy. She was raised in the Red Oak area and graduated from Red Oak High School in 1933. Lois was united in marriage to Vern Meek on November 24, 1935 in Red Oak, Iowa. Lois and Vern lived all over the United States throughout Vern's military career. Vern and Lois moved back to Red Oak, Iowa in 1962 when Vern retired from the military. Lois was a devoted wife, mother, and homemaker. She was a member of the First Christian Church where she was a member of the Eunice Circle. Lois was preceded in death by her parents; her husband: Vern Meek on March 6, 1978; and sisters: Mary Pogue and Ruth Fada. Survivors include her two sons: Dennis Meek and wife Karen of Minneapolis, Minnesota; and Donald Meek and wife Mary Elin of Plantation, Florida; three grandchildren: Tiffany Meek of Chicago, Illinois; Robbie Meek of Grand Forks, North Dakota; and Brian Meek and wife Melinda of Seattle, Washington; two great grandchildren: Joshua Meek and Olivia Meek of Seattle, Washington; many nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held 10 AM Saturday, August 26, 2006 at the First Christian Church with Rev. JoAnn Thomas officiating. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be held from 7-8 PM Friday, August 25, 2006 at Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel. Memorials are suggested to the First Christian Church. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
