Birthplace: Silver City, Iowa Resided In: Red Oak, Iowa Lois Herbert, age 78, of Red Oak, Iowa passed away suddenly on Monday, November 22, 2004 at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital. Lois M. Herbert was born April 18, 1926 in Silver City, Iowa the daughter of James and Margaret (Wallace) Bishop. She was raised in the Silver City and Macedonia area graduating from Macedonia High School in 1944. After graduation Lois worked for 1 year for the FBI in Washington, D.C. before moving back to Macedonia where she worked at the Café. Lois was united in marriage to Michael J. Herbert in 1946 at Red Oak, Iowa. Lois was a homemaker until 1954 when she went to work for Union Carbide Company. She worked there until 1964. Over the years Lois also worked for Red Oak Wholesale Fruit and Grocery, Johnny's,` and Schoenbergs. She retired from Smith Jewelers in 1991. Lois was a DAV Auxiliary member, a volunteer for the Historical Society, and a former volunteer for the Red Oak Community Playhouse. Lois also enjoyed sending cards for birthdays and anniversaries. Preceding her in death were her parents; her step-father: Floyd Tibbles; husband: Michael Herbert; a brother: Orville Bishop; and an infant brother. Survivors include her 2 daughters: Karen Brewer and husband Ted of Emerson, Iowa; and Kathy Chatterton and husband Gene of Red Oak, Iowa; son: Kenneth Herbert of Red Oak, Iowa; 5 grandchildren: James Skalberg and wife Kelli of Cullman, Alabama; Amy Murren and husband Chad of Villisca, Iowa; Jaime Quick of Council Bluffs, Iowa; Michael Herbert and friend Keri Fort of Villisca, Iowa; and Kenna Herbert and friend Rod Walters of Clarinda, Iowa; 13 great grandchildren; 3 brothers: Richard Bishop and wife Bonnie of Oakland, Iowa; Wayne Bishop and wife Deloris of Cocoa, Florida; and Seth Bishop and wife Mary of Seattle, Washington; sister: Wanda Mitchell of Council Bluffs, Iowa; many nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held 2 PM Friday, November 26, 2004 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel with Rev. Marlene Brown officiating. Burial will be in the Emerson, Iowa Cemetery. There will be open visitation at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel. Memorials are suggested to the Red Oak Volunteer Fire and Rescue Association. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
