Birthplace: Smaland, Sweden Resided In: Johnston, IA formerly Elliott, IA Linnea Stoneking Meeks, age 101, of Johnston, Iowa formerly Elliott, Iowa, passed away Friday, March 30, 2012 at the Bishop Drumm Care Center in Johnston, Iowa. Linnea was born June 28, 1910 in Knappekulla, Tryserum Kalmar Lan, Smaland, Sweden the daughter of Carl August and Ida Sophia (Dahlstrom) Carlson. The family moved to Stanton, Iowa when Linnea was nine years old. She graduated from Red Oak High School in the class of 1929 and taught school until her marriage to Gerald Stoneking. They farmed in Montgomery County for many years until moving into Elliott, Iowa where Linnea was a cook for the Elliott Schools. Gerald passed away in 1971 and Linnea later married Amos Meeks in 1974. Linnea was a longtime member of the Elliott United Methodist Church and United Methodist Women. She enjoyed playing cards, playing games, crocheting, knitting, gardening, and spending time with her family. Linnea was preceded in death by her parents; husbands: Gerald Stoneking and Amos Meeks; sons: Ralph Stoneking and Jerry Stoneking; grandson: Kirk Stoneking; and sons-in-law: Dean Anderson; Bill Partlow; and Walter Hartschen. Survivors include her daughters: Joyce Hartschen of Des Moines, Iowa and Jeanne Partlow of Ankeny, Iowa; daughters-in-law: Jean Stoneking of Elliott, Iowa and Patricia Stoneking of New Virginia, Iowa; step-daughters: Kathy Kline of Omaha, Nebraska and Janice Dutch and husband Steve of Tucson, Arizona; 12 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; 12 great great grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held 10:30 AM Tuesday, April 3, 2012 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel in Red Oak, Iowa with Pastor Terry McClain officiating. Burial will be in the Hillside Cemetery at Elliott, Iowa. Visitation with the family will be held one hour prior to the funeral at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorials are suggested to the Elliott Volunteer Fire and Rescue or the Elliott Public Library. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
