Birthplace: Clarinda, Iowa Resided In: Red Oak, Iowa Linda K. Curry, age 57, of Red Oak, Iowa passed away Wednesday, October 15, 2003 at the Creighton University Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska where she had been a patient for 8 months. Linda Kay Curry was born August 25, 1946 in Clarinda, Iowa the daughter of Bud and Lucille (Frost) Coykendall. She attended school in Clarinda and Red Oak graduating from Red Oak High School. She then attended business school in Omaha where she worked for a number of years before moving back to Red Oak. Linda was united in marriage to Neal Curry on May 1, 1966 in Red Oak, Iowa. They lived three miles south of Red Oak. Linda was a member of the First United Methodist Church, the Red Oak Eagle's Lodge and was an avid bowler. She was Past President of the Red Oak Women's Bowling Association, Secretary of many ladies' as well as men's and mixed leagues, and was President of various leagues throughout her years of bowling. Linda was a delegate to the Iowa Women's Bowling Association annual meeting for several years and was a member of the Red Oak Women's Bowling Association Hall of Fame. She bowled in many local, state, and national bowling tournaments. Linda was awarded a plaque for having served as President for the local bowling association for over ten consecutive years. Linda was preceded in death by her son: Michael Neal Curry; and a granddaughter: Mercedes Skye Akers. Survivors include her husband: Neal Curry of Red Oak, Iowa; daughter: Angi Akers and husband Gary of Apopka, Florida; 2 grandchildren: Kodi and Summer Akers of Apopka, Florida; parents: Bud and Lucille Coykendall of Red Oak, Iowa; sister: Donna Barten and husband Ted of Sheridan, Wyoming; nieces and a nephew; special family friend: Lyn Gibson of Red Oak, Iowa; and many other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held 10:30 AM Saturday, October 18, 2003 at the First United Methodist Church with Rev. Nancy Schultz officiating. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be held from 7-8 PM Friday, October 17, 2003 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel. Memorials are suggested to the First United Methodist Church or the American Diabetes Association. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
