Obituary

Birthplace: Pottawattamie County, Iowa Resided In: Rural Elliott, Iowa The family of Lillian E. Hunt is sad to announce her passing on August 6, 2011, from causes, incident to age. She was a special person and will be greatly missed by family and friends. Lillian was born January 22, 1930 in the Kemling area of East Pottawattamie County, Iowa the daughter of Gustave and Beda (Ryd) Nelson. She attended school at Lincoln #1 in Montgomery County, Iowa and graduated from Red Oak High School in 1947. Lillian attended Red Oak Junior College for 1 year and entered nurses training at Immanuel Hopsital School of Nursing in Omaha. She was united in marriage to Dean W. Hunt on April 16, 1950 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Red Oak. Two children were born to this union: Linda in 1950 and Bill in 1952. Lillian worked many years as an LPN at Murphy Memorial Hospital and the Griswold Care Center. Lillian was a longtime member of the Bethlehem Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday School, was a choir member, and served on the Altar Guild. She also participated in a neighborhood Bible study group, was president of East Pottawattamie County Farm Bureau Women, 4-H Leader, chair of the Federated Research Club of Elliott, and mowed three cemeteries for many years. She loved needlework, putting together puzzles, playing piano, and reading. Preceding Lillian in death were her parents; brother: Paul Nelson; husband: Dean Hunt on November 14, 2010; and brothers-in-law: Marvin Hunt and Donald Hunt. Those left to honor her memory are her children: Linda Purkapile (Emerson) of Scottsdale, Arizona and Willam Hunt (Colleen) of Elliott, Iowa; grandchildren: Sarah Hanson (Adam) of Mayer, Minnesota and Emily Uhl (Nathan) of Maple Grove, Minnesota; brother-in-law: Verle Hunt (Ellen) of Marshalltown, Iowa; sisters-in-law: Doris Hunt of Shenandoah, Iowa and Ruth Nelson of Milwaukee, Wisconsin; and numerous nieces and nephews. A celebration of life service will be held 11 AM Friday, August 26, 2011 at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church with Rev. Dr. George Hooper officiating. There will be a time of visitation with the family after the services. A private family burial of the cremated remains will be held prior to the funeral service. Memorials are suggested to the Bethlehem Lutheran Church or the Christian Care Endowment at Good Samaritan Society of Red Oak. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
