Birthplace: Morrill, Kansas Resided In: Red Oak, Iowa Lila L. Williams, age 79, of Red Oak, Iowa passed away, Friday, May 9, 2008 at the Mercy Hospital in Council Bluffs, Iowa. Lila Lee Williams was born June 30, 1928 in Morrill, Kansas the daughter of Fred and Faye (Beachy) Behmer. The family moved to Omaha, Nebraska for a short time when Lila was a young girl. They moved to Atlantic for awhile and then to Red Oak where Lila graduated high school in 1946. In high school she worked for the Johnson Hotel and the Safeway store. She was united in marriage to Homer D. Williams on February 16, 1946 in Marysville, Kansas. In her younger years Lila worked for Houghton State Bank, Henry Elliott, and L.V. Bradley Auctions for Saturday Household Sales. When her kids were older she started working for the Union Carbide Battery Company before going to work at the Treasurer's office at the Courthouse in 1971. She later worked many years in the Recorder's office even being appointed as the Recorder for a period of time. In recent years Lila was still helping out in many capacities at the Courthouse. Lila was a longtime member of the First United Methodist Church where she was involved in church circle. Most recently, Lila was attending the Hope For Life church where she was involved with the Women of the Word. Lila also enjoyed being a member of the Red Hat Society, VFW Auxiliary, Republican Committee, and the POW Chapter both at a state and national level. She enjoyed her family, friends, fun, traveling, camping, and just visiting. Lila was always a sports enthusiast attending many Red Oak Tiger events. Lila was preceded in death by her parents; her husband: Homer Williams on February 22, 1995; and two sisters: Shirley Pihlak and Janet Kullbom. Survivors include her children: Connie Smith and husband Murray of Red Oak, Iowa; Mike Williams and wife Mary of Urbandale, Iowa; and John Williams and wife Kathy of Thornton, CO; grandchildren: Khela McDonald and husband Chris of Conroe, TX; Chris Lane of Omaha, NE; Zachary Smith and wife Toni of Aiea, HI; Sarah Smith of Honolulu, HI; Dana Williams of Omaha, NE; Sam Williams of Gunnison, CO; Stewart Williams of Thornton, CO; Joseph Williams of Thornton, CO; Tom Williams of Urbandale, IA; Abigail Williams of Thornton, CO; and James Williams of Urbandale, IA; 7 great grandchildren: Andrew, Kyle, Brendon, Ethan, Tanner, Emily and Sara; brother: Jack Behmer and wife Kay of Clive, IA; special friend: Robert Rich of Davis City, IA; sisters-in-law: Helen Parker of Hastings, NE and Twyla Williams of Crete, NE; brother-in-law: Harold Williams and wife Ella Lou of Seward, NE; many nieces and nephews including Kim Burris and husband Brad of Kansas City, KS. Kim lived with Lila and graduated from Red Oak High School. There also many other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held 10:30 AM Tuesday, May 13, 2008 at the Hope For Life Church. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be held from 6-8 PM Monday, May 12, 2008 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel. Memorials are suggested to the Hope For Life Church or the First United Methodist Church. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
