Birthplace: Hamburg, Iowa Resided In: Red Oak, Iowa Leta Hallam, age 87, of Red Oak, Iowa passed away Sunday, February 3, 2008 at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital. Leta Bethene Hallam was born January 13, 1921 in Hamburg, Iowa the daughter of Henry and Mary (Saunders) Collins. She was raised in the Hamburg, Iowa area and the Westboro, Missouri area graduating from Westboro High School. She took her training for LPN at Nursing School in Shenandoah, Iowa and worked in Shenandoah as a nurse until her marriage to Guy Hallam on September 4, 1948 in Kansas City, Missouri. They moved to Red Oak where Leta worked for Murphy Memorial Hospital and later Cottage Rest Home before becoming a fulltime homemaker and "Mom". Leta was a longtime member of the First Christian Church. Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband: Guy Hallam on September 14, 1994; and her brother: David Collins. Survivors include her son: Steve Hallam and wife Jan of Council Bluffs, Iowa; grandchildren: Sara Liddick and fiancé Josh Watts of Omaha, Nebraska; Abby DeLong and husband Chris of Shenandoah, Iowa; and Molly Aragon and husband Jorge of Omaha, Nebraska; great grandchildren: Mya, Katy, Joel, and Diego; and many other relatives and friends. Graveside funeral services will be held 2 PM Wednesday, February 6, 2008 at the Evergreen Cemetery with Rev. JoAnn Thomas officiating. Visitation with the family will start at 1 PM on Wednesday, February 6, 2008 at Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel. Family and friends will go to the cemetery in procession for the service. Memorials are suggested to the First Christian Church or the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital Foundation. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
