Birthplace: Ainsworth, NE Resided In: Red Oak, IA Lessie Van Houten Wolcott, age 91, of Red Oak, Iowa, passed away Saturday, November 14, 2015 at the Red Oak Healthcare Community. Lessie was born March 29, 1924 in Ainsworth, Nebraska the daughter of Gerdan and Rosie (Culbertson) Wheeler. She graduated from Ainsworth High School and taught country school before her marriage to Richard Van Houten on May 3, 1945 in Ainsworth, Nebraska. They lived in San Francisco while Richard was in the military and then returned to Nebraska. They moved to Iowa in 1964. Lessie was a homemaker and later worked for Good Samaritan Care Center. Richard passed away in 1977 and Lessie was united in marriage to Jim Wolcott on May 5, 1987 in Cheyenne, Wyoming. Lessie loved gardening, was a creative cook, a wonderful writer, and enjoyed genealogy. Preceding her in death were both husbands; son: Brent Van Houten; grandchildren: Chad Van Houten, Angie Smith, Tawnya Van Houten, Colin Van Houten, and Caleb Van Houten; sister: Donna Miller; and brother: Lyle Wheeler. Survivors include her children: Brad Van Houten and wife Barb Lombard of Red Oak; Bryce Van Houten and wife Jackie of Red Oak; and Beverly Moore of Spokane, WA; daughters-in-law: Loa Greedy of Tabor, IA and Emily Van Houten of Sidney, IA; grandchildren: Cyndi, Dawn, Jeff, Kristin, Johanna, BJ, Tonya, Tammy, Mariah, Carey, Clifton, Chris, Juston, and Kayleen; 39 great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren; sister: Grace Hatley of Long Pine, NE; sister-in-law: Bertha Anderson of Story City, Iowa; and many other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held 10:30 AM Thursday, November 19, 2015 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be held from 7-8 PM Wednesday, November 18, 2015 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel. A memorial fund is being established in Lessie's name. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
