Obituary

Birthplace: Rural Stanton, Iowa Resided In: Omaha formerly Council Bluffs LeRoy J. Magneson, age 82, of Omaha, Nebraska formerly of Council Bluffs, Iowa passed away Tuesday, January 25, 2011 at the Mont Clair Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Omaha, Nebraska. LeRoy James Magneson was born September 1, 1928 in Stanton, Iowa the son of Clarence and Doris "Marie" (Herron) Magneson. He graduated from Stennett High School and started farming. During the Korean War, LeRoy served as a paratrooper in the 11th Airborne Division of the United States Army. Upon his return from service, he farmed before going to work with the Atomic Energy Commission and later Holmes & Narver. He was united in marriage to Patricia Carlson on December 7, 1957. Over the years, LeRoy worked in several different industries where he and Pat lived in Iowa, California, Nevada, Alaska, Florida, and Oklahoma before moving back to Council Bluffs, Iowa in the early 1980's. He had recently become a resident of the Mont Clair Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Omaha. LeRoy was a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church, the American Legion, and the 11th Airborne Division Association. He was an avid baseball fan, especially the Cardinals, and enjoyed spending time with his family and his two beloved dogs: Susie and Rosie. The grandkids remember him enjoying popcorn, Snickers candy bars, and the fun he had helping them buy cars. He also spent many hours reading the newspaper. Preceding LeRoy in death were his parents; his wife: Patricia in 1994; brothers: Ralph and Delano; and sisters: Marilyn Baker and Lorena Sothman. Survivors include his daughters: Mikki Demulling and husband Paul of Omaha, Nebraska and Terri Day of Omaha, Nebraska; grandchildren: Brett Demulling of Omaha, Nebraska; Darren Demulling of Ft. Stewart, Georgia; Michaela Day of Omaha, Nebraska; and Jason Day of Omaha, Nebraska; great grandson: Patrick; brother: C. Donovan Magneson and wife Mildred of Red Oak, Iowa; sisters: Dorothy Johnson and husband Quentin of Emerson, Iowa and Karen Johnson of Bolivar, Missouri; many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held 10:30 AM Friday, January 28, 2011 at the Our Savior Lutheran Church in Council Bluffs, Iowa with Rev. Yvonne Marshall officiating. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery in Red Oak, Iowa. Visitation with the family will be held from 5-7 PM Thursday, January 27, 2011 at the Our Savior Lutheran Church in Council Bluffs, Iowa and one hour prior to the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the 11th Airborne Memorial at Heartland of America Park in care of the family.
