Obituary

Birthplace: Rural Emerson, Iowa Resided In: Stanton, Iowa Leola M. Goodnight, age 93, of Stanton, Iowa, passed away Friday, October 26, 2012 at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital. Leola Marie Goodnight was born October 1, 1919 near Emerson, Iowa the daughter of Harley Jefferson and Mary Frances (Noel) Templeton. She was raised in the Emerson and Wales area and attended Wales Lincoln School. Leola was united in marriage to Leland Goodnight on November 4, 1945 in Red Oak, Iowa. They farmed for many years and also worked at the Union Carbide Battery Plant. They eventually moved into Red Oak and in the late 1980's moved to Stanton, Iowa. Leola worked for the Stanton Care Center while living in Stanton. She enjoyed quilting, gardening, and tending to her flowers. The most important thing in her life was her family. She cherished them all. Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband: Leland on July 29, 1993; her daughter: Sharon Wenberg; her grandson: Dakota Goodnight; brothers: Clark, Bill, and Donald Templeton; and sisters: Violet Marsh, Bessie Van Buskirk, and Florence Rogers. Survivors include her son: Rick Goodnight of Corning, IA; grandchildren: Dee Skidmore Sowers and husband Rod of Red Oak, IA; Kevin Smith and fiancé, Kristi Svendsen of Omaha, NE; Kale Wenberg of Red Oak, IA; and Cheyenne Goodnight, Lacey Goodnight, and Stevie Goodnight all of Corning, IA; great grandchildren: Trevor Scanlan, Dallas Wenberg, Alayna Hughes, Alex Smith, Haley Smith, and Lauren Ennis; brother: Clarence Templeton of Missouri; and many other relatives and friends. Graveside funeral services will be held 3 PM Tuesday, October 30, 2012 At the Evergreen Cemetery in Red Oak with Rev. Dr. Eric Kutzli officiating. Visitation with the family will be held from 1-2:45 PM Tuesday, October 30, 2012 at Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel. There will be a procession going to the cemetery following visitation. Memorials are suggested to the family. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
