Birthplace: Wales, Iowa Resided In: Wales, Iowa Leland R. Jones, age 77, of Wales, Iowa, passed away Friday, December 31, 2010 at his home. Leland R. Jones was born November 22, 1933 on the family farm near Wales, Iowa the son of Hayden and Anna Maye (Harville) Jones. He graduated from the Wales Lincoln High School in 1951 and started his farming career. Leland also served in the Iowa Army National Guard from 1951-1958. He was united in marriage to Carolyn Sue Lemons. Leland was a long time member of the Wales Presbyterian Church where he served as Elder, Trustee, Sunday School Teacher, and Sunday School Superintendent. He served many years on the Montgomery County Fair Board and was inducted in the Fair Board Hall of Fame. He served on the County Association of Fair Boards where he served as President and was a very active volunteer for the Iowa State Fair. Leland also volunteered as a courier for the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital. He was an avid New York Yankees fan and Nebraska Corn Huskers fan. Leland enjoyed many kinds of music, including country, and was a collector of many things including: oil lamps, toys, western cowboy collectibles, Redwing Pottery, vintage lunch boxes, and more. His most valued treasure was spending time with his family, especially watching all the kids and grandkids at school and sporting events. Preceding him death were his grandparents, parents, brothers: John Jones and Duane Jones, and daughters: Laura Jones and Elizabeth Weber. Survivors include his wife of 56 years: Carolyn Jones of Wales, Iowa; daughter: Suzane Jones and husband Michael Harvey of Carson, Iowa; son-in-law: Bruce Weber of Lincoln, Nebraska; grandchildren: Meghan Weber of Wales, Iowa; Emily Weber of Lincoln, Nebraska; and Allison Weber of Lincoln, Nebraska; step-grandson: Christopher Weber of Lincoln, Nebraska; brother: Wendell Jones and wife Cindy of Abilene, Texas; mother-in-law: Myrtle Lemons of Emerson, Iowa; brother-in-law: Jerry Lemons and wife Vickie of Sioux City, Iowa; many nieces and nephews including Doug Jones of Wales, Iowa; many cousins including Karen Starr of Red Oak, Iowa; and many other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held 2 PM Tuesday, January 4, 2011 at the Wales Presbyterian Church with Rev. Caryn Pedersen officiating and Rev. Michael Harvey assisting. Burial will be in the Gomer Cemetery at Wales, Iowa. Visitation with the family will be held from 6-8 PM Monday, January 3, 2011 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel. Memorials are suggested to the Wales Presbyterian Church, the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, or the State Fair Blue Ribbon Foundation. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
