Birthplace: Benkelman, Nebraska Resided In: Red Oak, Iowa Leland Drake, age 75, of Red Oak, Iowa passed away Monday, January 6, 2003 at the Good Samaritan Care Center after an extended illness. Leland Ralph Drake was born January 7, 1927 in Benkelman, Nebraska the son of Ralph and Ruth (Hawk) Drake. Leland attended school in Lincoln, Nebraska until his senior year which he attended in Shenandoah, Iowa graduating in 1944. He served in the Army during WW II and then attended 1 year of College at Tarkio, Missouri. Leland was united in marriage to Dorothy Reed on May 11, 1948 is Shenandoah, Iowa. They lived in Iowa, Nebraska, and Kansas before moving to Red Oak, Iowa in 1968. Leland was an Electrical Engineering Consultant. He was Vice President of Engineering for the American Beef Packers and was the Manager of the Farmers Mercantile in Red Oak for a couple of years. Leland retired in 1993. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and his family. Leland was a member of the Montgomery County Historical Society and was instrumental in the construction of their building. He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Roger Drake. Survivors include his wife: Dorothy Drake of Red Oak, Iowa; children: Andrew Drake and his wife Ann of Waverly, Nebraska; Janet Osheim and her husband Harold of Red Oak, Iowa; Paul Drake and his wife Maureen of Maryville, Missouri; Jeanne Peterson and her husband Greg of Kansas City, Missouri; Robert Drake and his wife Cathy of Red Oak, Iowa; Emily Carlisle and her husband Dallas of Omaha, Nebraska; Ron Drake and his wife Sue of Red Oak, Iowa; Phillip Drake of Mineola, Iowa; Gary Drake and his wife Laverne of Omaha, Nebraska; and Aaron Drake of Rockaway Beach, Missouri; 19 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; 3 brothers: Donald Drake and his wife Shirley of Council Bluffs, Iowa; Hugh Drake and his wife Rosemary of Des Moines, Iowa; and Joe Drake and his wife Toni of Essex, Iowa; and many other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held 2 PM Friday, January 10, 2003 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be held from 6:30 - 8 PM Thursday, January 9, 2003 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel. Memorials are suggested to the Diabetes Foundation, the Montgomery County Historical Society or the Red Oak Senior Citizens Center. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
