Birthplace: Claremore, Oklahoma Resided In: Red Oak, Iowa formerly Elliott Lee R. Dial, age 73, of Red Oak, Iowa formerly of Elliott, Iowa, passed away Tuesday, December 28, 2010 at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital. Lee Roy Dial was born December 30, 1936 in Claremore, Oklahoma the son of Earl McBride and Bessie (Koger) Dial. The family moved to California when Lee was a baby. He graduated from the Helix High School in LaMesa, California and served in the United States Air Force stationed in Denver, Colorado. This is where he met his future wife Joan Howard. They were united in marriage on June 14, 1958 in Tabor, Iowa. After Lee's military service he and Joan moved to California in 1960. In 1965 they moved back to Tabor, Iowa and in 1967, moved to Elliott, Iowa where Lee managed the Gulf Farm Supply. He and Joan later purchased that business naming it Elliott Farm Center. They retired after 32 years in business. They moved to Red Oak in 1999 and enjoyed many winters in Black Canyon City, Arizona. Lee was a member of the Elliott Volunteer Fire Department, Elliott Businessmen, Elliott Church of Christ, and a former Elks Lodge member. He enjoyed many outdoor activities including, hunting, camping, golf, metal detecting, water skiing, and yard work. Lee and Joan spent many hours square dancing throughout the years. Preceding him in death were his parents; son: Mike Dial; grandson: Caleb Dial; brother: Jim Dial; sister: Wanda Mayer; brothers-in-law: Don Howard and Glen Howard; and sister-in-law: Dalene Howard. Survivors include his wife: Joan Dial of Red Oak, Iowa; children: Cheryl Farnum and husband Mike of Red Oak, Iowa and Terry Dial of Des Moines, Iowa; grandchildren: Eric Dial of Ames, Iowa; Stephanie Farnum of Red Oak, Iowa; and Brandon Farnum of Red Oak, Iowa; sister: Madella White and husband David of Sullivan, Missouri; brothers: John Dial of Wagoner, Oklahoma; and Harold Dial and wife Doreen of El Cajon, California; sisters-in-law: Betty Dial of El Cajon, California; Beverly Howard of Tabor, Iowa; and Sandra Howard of Nevada, Iowa; brothers-in-law: George Mayer of San Bernardino, California and Warren Howard of Tabor, Iowa; many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held 11 AM Friday, December 31, 2010 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel with Rev. JoAnn Thomas officiating. Visitation with the family will be held from 6-8 PM Thursday, December 30, 2010 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel. Cremation will take place after the services and burial will take place at a later date at the Tabor, Iowa Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Public Library at Elliott or Red Oak, the Elliott Church of Christ, First Christian Church in Red Oak, or the Heartland Hospice of Montgomery County Memorial Hospital. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
