Birthplace: Elliott, Iowa Resided In: Red Oak, IA formerly Elliott, IA Leah Mae White, age 94, of Red Oak, Iowa formerly Elliott, Iowa, passed away Thursday, April 9, 2015 at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital. Leah was born October 14, 1920 in Elliott, Iowa the daughter of Clare O. and Lyra Leona (Kirby) Acree. The family moved to Courtland, Kansas when Leah was two and moved back to Iowa nine years later when she was enrolled in the 7th grade at Elliott Schools. She graduated from Grant High School in 1938 and was united in marriage to Leo White on July 19, 1941 in Maryville, Missouri. Leo was drafted into the Army in 1942 and was discharged from duty due to an injury after spending 63 days in the hospital. They returned to Red Oak and started farming in the Stanton area. They later moved to their farm near Elliott, Iowa. Leah was a member of the Pilot Grove United Methodist Church, two neighborhood clubs, campers club, was very active in 4-H, and was a lifetime member of the VFW Auxiliary. She enjoyed reading, doing crafts, decorating, including wallpapering, and loved fishing with Leo. Preceding her in death were her parents; husband: Leo White on January 17, 2008; brothers: Lisle "Bud" Acree and Loren Acree; and sister: Luella Petty. Survivors include her son: Danny White and wife Beverly of Waukee, IA; grandchildren: Lewayne "Lee" White and wife Rebbecca of Grimes, IA and Joyann "Joy" Munsterman and husband Greg of Urbandale, IA; great grandchildren: Dagan, Aislyn, and Elora White and Athena and Gabrielle Munsterman; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law: Lorita Acree of Morristown, AZ; Billie White and Julia McGrew of Red Oak, IA; Sally White of Omaha, NE; Bettie McCunn of Greenfield, IA; Jim White and wife Shirley of Omaha, NE; Pat Williams and husband Jack of Glenwood, IA; John White of Omaha, NE; Mary Jones and husband Robert of Red Oak, IA; Wayne White and wife Ann of Elkhorn, IA; and Charles White and wife Denise of Essex, IA; special friend: Dolly Barr of Red Oak, IA; many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. A VFW memorial service will be held at 9:45 AM Monday, April 13, 2015 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel with funeral services to begin at 10 AM. Burial will be in the Hillside Cemetery at Elliott, Iowa. Visitation with the family will be held from 4-6 PM Sunday, April 12, 2015 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel. Memorials are suggested to the Elliott Volunteer Fire Department or the Elliott First Responders. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
