Birthplace: Stanton, Iowa Resided In: Red Oak, Iowa Lavon H. Thoren, age 79, of Red Oak, Iowa, passed away Monday, April 1, 2013 at the Mercy Hospital in Council Bluffs, Iowa. Lavon Henry Thoren was born June 26, 1933 in Stanton, Iowa the son of Henry and Ruby (Olson) Thoren. He graduated from Red Oak High School in 1953 and served in the United States Army until 1956. Lavon was united in marriage to Arveta Carr on August 11, 1956 in Forest Hills, Pennsylvania. They made their home in Red Oak, Iowa where Lavon worked many jobs over the years including being a baker for Doyle Peterson, working for several area gas stations, working 23 years for Hunts Super Value in the bakery, Star Agri Corporation until it closed, Oschelns, and retired from ROMech in 1998. Lavon was a longtime member of the Montgomery County Memorial Court of Honor, enjoyed spending time with friends at coffee, spending time with his kids and grandkids, woodworking, and taking care of his home and yard. Lavon was preceded in death by his parents; wife: Arveta on October 21, 1993; his brothers: Delaine and Donavon Thoren; and son-in-law: Roger Moore. Survivors include his children: Karen Moore and Gary Thoren and wife Kym all of Red Oak, IA; grandchildren: Heather LaFollette, Tim Moore, Kelsey Thoren, and Rebel Thoren of Red Oak, IA; Mykel Thoren of Atlantic, IA; and Bryton Thoren of Pella, IA; great grandchildren: Corey and Cody LaFollette of Red Oak, IA; brother: Leland Thoren and wife Jeannie of Council Bluffs, IA; and many other relatives and friends. A celebration of life service will be held 10:30 AM Thursday, April 4, 2013 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel with Pastor Alan Dean officiating. Burial of the cremated remains will be in the Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be held from 6-8 PM Wednesday, April 3, 2013 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel. Memorials are suggested to the Montgomery County Memorial Court of Honor or the charity of the donor's choice. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
