Birthplace: Red Oak, Iowa Resided In: Red Oak, Iowa LaVon E. Billings, age 74, of Red Oak, Iowa passed away Tuesday, April 13, 2004 at the Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska. LaVon Eugene Billings was born January 27, 1930 in Red Oak, Iowa the son of Ralph Eugene and Pearl Sophia (Levine) Billings. He was raised in Red Oak graduating from Red Oak High School in 1947 and Red Oak Public Junior College in 1949. LaVon attended the University of Omaha and served in the United States Navy from June 1952 to January 1954. He graduated from the University of Nebraska College of Business Administration in 1954 and the University of Nebraska College of Law in 1957. On March 23, 1958 he was united in marriage to Shirley Munson in Red Oak, Iowa. LaVon practiced law in Omaha, Nebraska and came to Red Oak to open Billings Law Office on January 1, 1959. He was a member of the Bethlehem Lutheran Church where he was baptized, confirmed, and married. LaVon was also a member of the Montgomery County Bar Association, Iowa State Bar Association, Nebraska Bar Association, and American Bar Association and was a charter member of the Red Oak Optimist Club with perfect attendance for 40 consecutive years. Survivors include his wife, Shirley Billings of Red Oak, Iowa; son, Scott E. Billings and wife Molly of Omaha, Nebraska; two grandchildren, Nicholas Scott Billings and Elizabeth Ann Billings; brother: Robert L. Billings and wife Colleen of Omaha, Nebraska; sister-in-law, Charlene Cole of Goodland, Kansas; nieces, Cristin Cole of Davenport, Florida, and Cynthia Cole of Lawrence, Kansas; and many friends. A Celebration of Life will be held 3 p.m. Friday, April 16, 2004 at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church with Rev. Dr. George Hooper officiating. LaVon's wishes were to be cremated and no visitation is scheduled. Memorials are suggested to the Bethlehem Lutheran Church, the Eppley Cancer Center through the University of Nebraska Foundation, or Optimist International. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel in Red Oak is in charge of arrangements.
