Birthplace: Villisca, Iowa Resided In: Shenandoah, IA formerly Villisca Irma LaVerne Meggison, age 89, of Shenandoah, Iowa formerly of Villisca, Iowa, passed away Monday, March 7, 2016 at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha. LaVerne was born July 13, 1926 in Villisca, Iowa the daughter of Dewey and Lillian (Doggett) Johnson. She attended country school near Morton's Mill and Grant, Iowa before graduating from Villisca High School in 1944. LaVerne was united in marriage to Bernard Scott in 1945 in Troy, Kansas. 6 children were born to this union: Dennis, Diana, Doris, Doug, Kay, and Kathy. She was later united in marriage to Alfred Meggison in 1963 in Villisca, Iowa. She was a lifelong resident of Villisca where she was a member of the Advent Christian Church. She loved to do craft including quilting. She also loved reading and doing word search puzzles. For the past two years, LaVerne has been a resident of Windsor Manor Assisted Living in Shenandoah, Iowa. Preceding her in death were her parents; husband: Alfred Meggison; son: Dennis Scott; and granddaughter: Staci Zwerk. Survivors include her children: Diana Freshour of Villisca, IA; Doris Blum of Imperial Beach, CA; Doug Scott of Villisca, IA; Kay Cole of Afton, IA; and Kathy Racine and husband Randy of New Market, Iowa; daughter-in-law: Cindy Scott of Elliott, IA; many grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren; sisters: Jean Carson of Elliott, IA and Dorothy Strickland of Villisca, IA; many nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held 10:30 AM Thursday, March 10, 2016 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel in Red Oak, Iowa. Burial will be in the Villisca, Iowa Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be held one hour prior to the funeral. Memorials are suggested to the family. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
