Birthplace: Red Oak, Iowa Resided In: Red Oak, Iowa LaVerne K. Fort, age 79, of Red Oak, Iowa, passed away Sunday, August 11, 2013 at the Mercy Hospital in Council Bluffs, Iowa. LaVerne Keith Fort was born December 6, 1933 in Red Oak, Iowa, the son of George and Linnie (Miller) Fort. He was united in marriage to Mardell Peterson on June 19, 1954 in Red Oak, Iowa. They made Red Oak their home for most of their married life. LaVerne worked for Baker Manufacturing and retired after 30 years of service from Briggs, Inc. LaVerne was a member of Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses in Shenandoah, Iowa. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and camping with his family. Preceding him in death were his parents; and brothers: Leland and Kenneth Fort. Survivors include his wife: Mardell Fort of Red Oak, IA; children: Curtis Fort and wife Carol of Shenandoah, IA; Lonnie Fort and wife Kathy, Brenda Hayes and husband Russ, and Tony Fort and wife Jana all of Red Oak, IA; 7 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; and 2 step-great grandchildren; brother: Merlin Fort and wife Joy of Tulsa, OK; sister: Betty Grinstead of Silver City, IA; sister-in-law: Marilyn Long of Red Oak, IA; and many other relatives and friends. Memorial services will be held 2 PM Wednesday, August 14, 2013 at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses in Shenandoah, Iowa. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
