LaVern Marvin "Dutch" Ratashak, age 84, of Red Oak, Iowa, passed away Tuesday, December 22, 2020 at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital. Dutch was born November 9, 1936 in Treynor, Iowa, the son of George and Martha (Wieland) Ratashak. He graduated from the Lewis, Iowa high school and served in the United States Air Force. Dutch was united in marriage to Elsie Zellmer on November 12, 1966 in Griswold, Iowa. They moved to Red Oak, Iowa, in 1967 where Dutch worked for Union Carbide Battery that became Eveready Battery. He retired when the plant closed. Dutch enjoyed the outdoors usually camping and fishing. Preceding him in death were his parents; wife: Elsie on September 8, 2008; sisters: Mary Roundtree and Betty Christensen; and brothers: George, Max, Lyle, and Clarence. Survivors include his son: Shawn Ratashak of Red Oak; brother: Edwin Ratashak of Kansas City, MO; sisters-in-law: Ella Ratashak of Berthoud, CO; Carolyn Ratashak of Urbandale, IA; Rose Mary Zellmer of Wiota, IA; and Karen Albertson and husband David of Cassville, MO; and many other relatives and friends. A celebration of life service will be held 2 PM Tuesday, December 31, 2020 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel. Due to limited capacity with social distancing the service will be live streamed through Nelson-Boylan-LeRette's Facebook page. Burial of the cremated remains will be in the Whipple Cemetery near Griswold, Iowa. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
