Birthplace: Minden, LA Resided In: Huntsville, AL Laura Dial Stoddard graduated life on Sunday, November 12, 2017, at home in Huntsville, Alabama. Laura was the first child born to Sarah and Drury Dial in Minden, Louisiana. She was raised in Louisiana, and Virginia, graduating high school in Richmond and attending West Hampton College there before transferring to Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah. She later received her Bachelor's and Master's degrees from Arizona State University. On December 22, 1952 she married Raymond Harold Stoddard, Jr. in the Mesa Arizona Temple. Their family consisted of five children: Denise Barrett of Las Cruces, NM, Beth Collins (Dale) of Huntsville, AL; Ivan Drue Stoddard (Sherri) of Roosevelt, UT; Reed Morgan Stoddard (Risa) of Boise, ID, and Dr. Grant Fielding Stoddard (KayLyn) of Rio Rancho, NM. Her love of teaching children was evident for 20 years in the elementary schools in Hobbs, New Mexico. She also loved the people in Zimbabwe, Africa where she served with Ray as educational missionaries for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints from 1990-1991. Laura is survived by her only sister, JoAnn Lasley (Gene) of Chehalis, WA, and her brother, Glen Hawkins (Sherri) of Wenatchee, WA. She has 12 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. People who have known Laura agree she is the most Christ-like woman you would ever meet. Her children considered her an angel on earth and her devotion to Heavenly Father, His restored gospel, her family, and her friends will always mark her as one of His choice daughters and a woman of faith. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Friday, November 17, 2017 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel. Visitation with the family will be held one hour prior to the funeral. Interment will be at the Evergreen Cemetery.
