Obituary

Birthplace: Waterloo, IA Resided In: Red Oak, IA Larry Arnold Ray, age 73, of Red Oak, Iowa, passed away Thursday, December 13, 2018 at his home. Larry was born April 23, 1945 in Waterloo, Iowa, the son of Arnold and Neola (Hood) Ray. He graduated from West High School in Waterloo in 1963 and served in the United States Navy during Vietnam. He was united in marriage to Lana Seda on August 2, 1969 in Clutier, Iowa. Larry attended Kirkwood Community College where he studied Mechanical Drafting. He and Lana moved to Waverly, Iowa where he worked for the Bantam Company. They moved back to Waterloo where he worked for John Deere Company and later attended NIACC in Mason City to study to be a Maintenance Electrician. This is when they moved to Red Oak where Larry worked for Douglas and Lomason Company. At this same time, he attended Southwestern Community College where he received his Associates of Arts Degree. Larry retired from RO Mech when they closed the factory. Larry loved working with his hands doing woodworking and making stained glass. He enjoyed fishing, golfing, traveling, and spending time with his family especially the grandkids. Preceding him in death were his parents. Survivors include his wife: Lana Ray of Red Oak; children: Kristen Hughes of Red Oak and Jonathan Ray of Wichita, KS; grandchildren: Logun Hughes, Chauntel Blake Kinnison and husband T.J., Ryan Chambers, Alexia Ray, and Victoria Ray; great grandchildren: Olyvia Hughes, Isaak Hughes, Kaiden Kinnison, and Hunter Kinnison; sister: Marilyn Fecht of Fredericktown, MO; brother-in-law: Roland Seda and wife Mary of Clutier, IA; sister-in-law: JoAnn Fisher and husband Dale of Belle Plaine, IA; and many other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held 10:30 AM Monday, December 17, 2018 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel. Burial with military honors will be in the Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be held from 5-7 PM Sunday, December 16, 2018 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel. Memorials are suggested to the family. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
