Birthplace: Green Castle, Missouri Resided In: Red Oak, Iowa and Arizona Larry D. Alger, age 70, of Red Oak, Iowa passed away at his home in Arizona with the care of Hospice on June 20, 2010 after a rapid bout with cancer. Larry Dean Alger was born January 28, 1940 in Green Castle, Missouri the son of Alvin and Ada (Smith) Alger. After school, Larry served his country in the United States Army. He was united in marriage to Helen Ann Cox on November 18, 1979 in Council Bluffs, Iowa. They lived many different places throughout the country during Larry's 30 year career as a Teamster. Larry and Ann moved back to Red Oak, Iowa several years ago and had been spending winters in Arizona. Larry had always been an avid sportsman. Larry was preceded in death by an infant son. Survivors include his wife: Helen "Ann" Alger of Red Oak, Iowa; children: Monique Bleyhl; Julie Leslie and husband Dave; and Jennifer Alger all of Nebraska; and Montie Alger of Iowa; stepsons: Kurt Kelley and wife Tami and Kenny Cooper of Nebraska; grandchildren: Justin, Kenny, Kyle, Kevin, Natalie, Devon, Zachary, Haley, Isaac, Hanna, and Sean; great grandchildren: Toby, Payton, Macy, and Tatum; sister: Janice Gravett of Emerson, Iowa; brothers: Gary Alger and wife Connie of Clarinda, Iowa and Randy Alger and wife Elizabeth of Washington; and many other relatives and friends. A celebration of life service will be held 1 PM Saturday, June 26, 2010 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel. Visitation with the family will take place from 12-1 PM prior to the celebration of life service. Burial of the cremated remains will take place at a later date at Graceland Cemetery in Creston, Iowa. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
