He worked after school and on weekends at Hascall's Grocery Store. After graduating in 1952, Lane worked at the Supper Club, east of Emerson, whenever he was needed. Through the years, Lane worked at Lakin Implement, Emerson Post Office and had his own service trucks as a Standard Oil agent. He retired after 20 years at Interstate 35 Telephone Company. He was proud to have traveled to 43 of the 50 states in their camper. In 2010, Lane and Carol moved to Lake Wakonda, Nebraska and spend many hours fishing and boating. Due to health concerns, they moved to Plattsmouth, Nebraska and later Red Oak, Iowa to be closer to their daughter and son-in-law. Lane enjoyed woodworking and helping family and friends solve remodeling projects. He was a former deacon at the Emerson Baptist Church, Emerson Fire Chief and Past Master of the Masons, President of the Emerson Community Club and a proud member of the Emerson Cemetery Association.
